The Terminal
Tom Hanks new movie ‘The Terminal’ is one of the better movies I’ve seen lately. I laughed. I cried. I cheered and rooted for Tom Hank’s character to win the day in each new situation he encountered. Although I did this cheering silently in my head, I don’t think the other moviegoers would have appreciated it if I had got up and started cheering in the aisles. Theaters are no cell phone zones--so I don’t think cheering would go over to well. I wanted him to get the girl—but I won’t tell you if he does or not. I believe the critics have been too harsh in their reviews of the movie; Tom Hanks gives an extraordinary performance and Steven Spielberg tells a wonderful story.
During the entire movie Tom Hank’s character reminded me of my Croatian friend. When he talks I have to listen very intently, his accent is heavy and he speaks rapidly. He also speaks German besides his native Croatian language. I wonder if it was difficult for him when he first came to work in America. He works for an international company, but is based in an American port and has to deal with American immigration laws and visitation laws, which are very strict. If he breaks the immigration laws, he jeopardizes his job. At the moment he is visiting his family in Croatia and I am awaiting promised postcards of his beautiful picturesque seaside town.
What? You know Croatians? Aren't you the International woman of mystery~
