A Filthies Fix
The Filthies rocked the house last night at Kosmos! Did you get your Filthies Fix? I’m not sure exactly when it happened but somewhere along the way I became a ‘Filthies addict’. Not to worry-- it’s a healthy Filthies addiction that feeds the creative soul… I absolutely love their music! Wearing my pink-baby-doll Filthies t-shirt I headed down to Kosmos last night to get my Filthies Fix.
Kosmos was already packed at 9pm and the band
Empty Handed was just taking the stage. A fast-paced Rock band, Empty Handed played a great set for their fans.
I ran into Kelley of
The Filthies at the bar while trying to get the bartenders attention. I don’t know if the bartender was just swamped with customers or if it was because I wasn’t showing any cleavage-- but I have never been so ignored by a bartender like I was last night… Kelley was kind enough to come to my rescue and soon I had a yummy Jack Sour to sip.
40 to 1 took the stage next playing a fast-paced set to fans crowded around the stage and standing on chairs.
This was my first time to hear
Empty Handed and
40 to 1 and I was greatly impressed by their music, their talent and their fans!
I hung out with
NL, and Kenny and Gus of
The Filthies in between band sets and was entertained by Filthies humor.
“I read your blog everyday, but I can’t comment on it anymore.” Kenny informed me.
“I know… I had to shut down the comments.” I explained regrettably. “But I put up an email link you can send comments to.”
“Take a picture of all of us.” Gus said to NL.
NL had been taking pictures of the bands and band members for his website’s
music review page.
“Where’s your husband?” Gus asked me.
“I don’t have a husband.” I stated.
“She’s not married!”
“I’m single!” Kenny and I exclaimed simultaneously.
And the three of us posed for a
picture along with a ‘Next Generation Punk’ that was in the house. What a great Filthies souvenir! I’ll have to beg for a copy of the picture from NL.
(I think my Filthies addiction might be turning me into-- dare I say it-- a ‘groupie’!)
Finally
The Filthies took the stage and gave this ‘Filthies addict’ along with the rest of the crowd a truly talented and energized performance! Showing even more energy on stage than they did at the
St. Patrick’s Day Battle of the Bands if that’s possible. Gus was all over the stage jumping onto speakers and amplifiers while playing his guitar. The crowd all around me huddled close to the stage dancing and singing along to Filthies lyrics. I can still hear the crowd chanting
“No body likes me/ everybody hates me/ guys beat me up/ girls turn me down/ one of these days… I think I’m gonna blow up this town” along with Kenny as he sang fan favorite
The Donut Shop. A few people started slam dancing and moshing including the singer from
Temperd. Myself and a few other women in the crowd backed up to keep from being trampled. The slam dancing soon stopped-- there just wasn’t enough room for it, Kosmos’ staff insisted. Kenny dedicated
Embalm You to a few of his Mortuary friends that were in the house supporting the music scene ending their amazing set with yet another fan favorite.
The night’s adventures didn’t end with the last notes of
Embalm You. There was more Filthies mingling and Filthies stories and a wild Filthies car ride across town…
I don’t know when the next Filthies show is… but this ‘Filthies addict’ will need another Filthies Fix soon! Until then… I’ll just keep listening to their cd over and over again.
