A Filthies St. Patrick’s Day Galore
Thursday night Battle of the Bands and St. Patrick’s Day— Did everyone wear green? Instead of traditional green, I wore my brand new begged-for-pink-baby-doll
Filthies t-shirt!! Much thanks to Kenny, Guppy, Gus and Kelley of the Filthies for getting me a cool Filthies t-shirt to wear to their show at the Montgomery World Plaza Thursday night!
NL,
Flower in the Dale and myself went out to the Battle of the Bands especially for the much-anticipated great
Filthies show-- and we were not disappointed! There were three talented bands battling Thursday night:
Just Plain Morning,
Exithead and
Grammercy Riff and Grammercy Riff had a very unique sound. The local Bakersfield music scene is exploding in ways not yet imagined and teaming with talented musicians-- every week the music gets bigger and much much richer. The Montgomery World Plaza was the place to be Thursday night if you were a musician, a music lover, or a writer--
Bakersfield’s creative people were there to support each other.
JR was in the house taking pictures, dancing to Grammercy Riff and talking about writing, music and local bands. I ran into
Bake Town and had a great conversation about writing and our blogs. Gerhard Enns and Nico Rhodes of
The Dalloways were there checking out the music scene. We had a great conversation about music, an upcoming local Vietnam movie, writing, my novel and blogs.
“I’m really enjoying the blog format and the new
Dalloways blog.” Gerhard said.
“The blogs are a lot of fun aren’t they!” I exclaimed.
If
$200 Tercel and
Enrique had been there Thursday night we would have had a local blogging community in attendance. Maybe they’ll make an appearance at the next Battle of the Bands. I saw members of
Ridicule in the house giving their support to the other local bands… Ridicule’s camaraderie rivals most I have noticed.
At last…
The Filthies took the stage and gave us what we had been anxiously waiting for all night-- a truly amazing performance!! The Filthies are one of those talented bands that make ‘it’ look so easy! And yet we all know it’s not ‘easy’ to be that GOOD! NL, Flower in the Dale and myself found a spot in front of the stage and rocked out to
Embalm You,
The Donut Shop,
Keeley Marie, and other great Filthie songs. The crowd all around me danced and sang along to Filthie lyrics. The Filthies performed an Irish song for St. Patty’s Day that included Kenny playing an Irish instrument. Filthie shirts went flying into the crowd and a couple of Outer Limits skateboards too. Guppy threw his drumsticks to the crowd for souvenirs-- Flower caught one and whacked me on the butt giving me a Filthie welt. I could listen to The Filthies all night long… I think I’m wearing out their cd!
After the show it was time for a little band mingling. Kenny and Gus entertained us with Filthie stories and ‘rabbit’ trivia. Kelley passed out hugs and Gerhard and Nico gave praise. The friendships, conversations, and music continued over at the Silver Fox as NL, Flower in the Dale and myself caught up with Gerhard, and Nico and had a little St. Patty’s Day green drinky…

Dancing was I really dancing to Gramercy Riff? I thought that was funny cause I haven't danced in so long.
