Mellow Yellow
Today I wore a pale yellow trendy button up shirt to work. The kind of yellow that’s not too bright or neon obscene-- but a more mellow earthy pale yellow. The kind of yellow that looks good with my long-dark-curly-hair. I was sitting at my desk typing an Agriculture Conversion Study when my pregnant co-worker who was faxing documents made a comment about my shirt.

“I like your shirt.” She said. “It’s the same color of yellow that we decorated the baby’s room in.”

“Oh really, thanks!” I replied. “I bet the baby’s room turned out cute!”

“It did! You can see it tomorrow when you come to the house.” She said glowing.

“You know, when I was younger I used to hate the color yellow.” I stated. “I had a bright yellow coat that I wore to school, and one day while playing at recess-- a bunch of Bees became attracted to my yellow coat and attacked me!”

“No way!” My pregnant co-worker exclaimed.

“It really happened! And after that I hated yellow for the longest time.” I continued. “My mom liked yellow and decorated my entire room in yellow, and I was stuck in a yellow room I didn’t like.”

“How old were you when that happened with the Bees?” She asked.

“I’m not sure… maybe 3rd or 4th grade.” I replied.

“And you had the yellow room and yellow coat at the same time?” She asked.

“Yes. My mom really liked yellow at the time.” I explained.

“That’s funny!” She said.

“But then when I was 16… all I wanted was a yellow corvette!” I stated. “How strange is that?”

“Really? A yellow corvette?” She asked disbelieving.

“Corvettes were popular cars when I was in high school.” I explained.

“But then I rode in a corvette, and it rode so rough, you could feel every pebble in the road. I never wanted a corvette after that.” I explained.

“The yellow looks good on you.” She stated.

“I used to never buy yellow clothes-- leftover Bee trauma, I guess.” I explained. “But lately I’ve been buying yellow again.”

“I like it, looks good. You should wear yellow more often.” She said.

“Thanks.” I replied smiling.

My pregnant co-worker done with her faxing went on to her next assignment and I went back to my typing. She was soon sent out on a rush delivery of important documents. When she returned she rushed in to tell me some news…

“I just saw a yellow corvette!” She exclaimed.

“No way! How weird!” I said amazed. “We were just talking about yellow corvettes.”

“I know, isn’t that strange?” She replied.

At lunch I stopped at Jamba Juice and bought Mango-a-go-go’s and Orange Dream Machine’s for my co-workers and myself. I passed out pale mellow yellow smoothies in clear plastic cups like little rays of sunshine that brought smiles to each and every face. Yellow’s not so bad when you make it a pale mellow yellow day…

I have yellow fish boxer underwear that I got for father's day one year. One time when playing for my hockey team in Vegas we won 16 games in a row. We won a championship and it was all attributed to the yellow fish boxers... they're tattered now, but in typical guy fashion I can't throw them away...

I love yellow! I like coffee and smoke a whole bunch too, so I get comments like that all the time! One time, this little boy asked me "Hey Mr, are your teeth cold?" and I was like "No, why do you ask little boy?" Then he said, "I was just wondering why your teeth are wearing that fuzzy Yellow blanket!"
