A Night with the Dalloways and Friends…
Last Saturday night the
Dalloways,
Johnny Come Lately and
Norfolk played Narducci’s and if you didn’t go to the show you missed a great night of music!
Johnny Come Lately was the first band to play.
“This is our 6-year anniversary as a band.” The lead singer announced before they began playing music.
From the first strum of guitars til' the last note of music I could tell this band had been playing together for 6 years. I was amazed at just how good
Johnny Come Lately was! Their style of rock music was refreshing in an age of local screamo music. Their style of rock music fit in very well with the
Dalloways Brit pop sound. I instantly became a fan of
Johnny Come Lately. Where can I get a cd?
The
Dalloways took the stage next weaving great Brit pop melodies with intricate guitar layers and a driving bass guitar and drums. They made Narducci’s their venue with songs like
Marriage Arranged,
Penalty Crusade,
Ice Capades,
Cotty’s House and
Clarissa Dear. Every time I see the
Dalloways I am not only amazed at what talented musicians they are, or at what a stylistic look they have, but also at what a classy and intelligent act this group of musicians are. Not only do they carry themselves with dignity and decorum, but they speak with such clarity and intelligence that is so eloquently expressed in their lyrics.
Norfolk, an alternative country rock-sounding band, took the stage last. Winding the night of music up in pure rock twanging style.
Norfolk was another refreshing change of musical pace with their own blend of rock and country. A blend that fit musically with the
Dalloways Brit pop sound.
Three bands of differing musical styles that fit so well together and made for a great night of music all around.
Besides great music at Narducci’s there were local writers in the house.
NL,
Baketown, myself and
Enrique: Queen of the Downtown Fur. We were all there to hear great music, to experience literary moments, to let our hair down and have a good time.
Enrique was a fast-found Girlfriend! A riot. A girl who chased the rock-star boys relentlessly. A girl who almost stole the show from the
Dalloways,
Johnny Come Lately and
Norfolk by dancing with a beautiful girl. A girl who tried to steel kisses from as many boys as she could. A girl who knew how to have fun and embrace her role as 'Queen of the Downtown Fur'. A girl who made the night memorable in more fashionable ways than one.
Narducci’s was the place to be Saturday night for great music, great conversations, laughter and memories…
