Episode III Answers from the Dark Side…
Midnight. I sat in a darkened packed theater, after waiting years, months, days, and hours for the final chapter in the Star Wars saga. To think-- I saw my first Star Wars movie when I was 9 years old in 1977 and here I am today, 36 years old, watching the premier of the final Star wars movie. What other movie in history has spanned generations lifetimes as Star Wars has?

Elated cheers erupted when the words “In a Galaxy far, far away…” appeared on the screen and the distinctive Star Wars music began to play. Finally we would all have the answers to questions we had been asking about Star Wars for years. Questions like:

How does Anakin Skywalker turn to the dark side and become Darth Vadar?

How does Padme Amidala die?

Why doesn’t Darth Vadar know about his twins Luke and Leia?

Why were the twins Luke and Leia separated and raised apart?

How does Chancellor Palpatine become the evil Emperor?

What happens to all the Jedi Knights?

Why does the dark side of the force seem to be so much more powerful?

In true Lucas fashion these questions and more are answered in Episode III of the Star Wars saga. Is the movie good? For generations of Star Wars fans everywhere, yes the movie is good. In my opinion it is better than Episodes I and II. While the Star Wars movies are not the greatest movies of all time, they are entertaining. How is it then that such a sci-fi series has endeared itself to generations of people since 1977, influencing and affecting millions of people of all ages? Even I have quoted Star Wars in the novel I’m writing. I believe it is because Star Wars has timeless elements that people worldwide need to believe in. Elements such as the struggle between good and evil, myths, heroes (both men and women), Jedi Knights who were like King Arthur’s Knights saving the day on numerous occasions, a super villain, Darth Vadar, unlike any we had seen before, Shakespearean tragedy, love, humor, and characters we took to heart. In 1977 Star Wars introduced special effects previously unseen, which have gotten better over the years as technology has improved, light saber duels and strange and interesting characters, droids and creatures. But most of all Lucas through Star Wars gave generations of people ‘the Force’ to believe in. The essence of an all powerful spiritual force surrounding us, guiding us, protecting us from evil. How many of you have uttered these words at least once in your life: “May the force be with you…” Like people, the force has a Dark side, the path to the Dark side of the force is through anger, fear, and hatred. I think there is a lesson to be learned there…

I keep waiting for the Episode III of my life to begin... Surely now that I’m in my thirties, have been married and divorced, the next chapter (the one with all the answers) is lurking somewhere in a galaxy far, far away… a story still waiting to be told. There are questions I want answered in my Episode III. Questions like:

When and how will my Darth Vadar (ex-husband) be destroyed?

Where is my Han Solo?

What happened with that whole baby thing?

Will anger from my divorce turn me to the Dark side?

Will my ‘Yoda/Obi Wan’ continue to teach me all he knows?

Will the Force be with me?

How do I get Padme/Princess Leia hair?

And most importantly… How can I break into the six degrees of separation of Johnny Depp??
