I’m in love with Karmahitlist!
I love everything about
Karmahitlist. I even love the wit of Karmahitlist’s name...
Karma- defined as: The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny. In other words: ‘What goes around comes around’. And Hit List- defined as: A list designating a target, as for attack, coercion, or elimination.
Boy could I make a ‘Karmahitlist’ of my own… my ex-husband would be #1 on my list!
Karmahitlist made their first appearance Saturday afternoon at the Rockin’ Reggae Fest (see pictures
here and
here) since drummer Cesareo’s return from touring with Society One. Since Karmahitlist’s re-grouping, re-working, and re-commitment to their music. The Karmahitlist drought was over. They were the band to see. They were the show!
Karmahitlist fever had been in the air all week and I had it. I received this email from
NL last Tuesday morning:
“…but even more important… get ready…
KARMAHITLIST IS PLAYING THIS SATURDAY!!!!!!!
I am so there.”
To which I replied:
“Holy Shit!!! So am I! Where are they playing??? Oh my goodness that is big news!!! I can’t wait!!! Wow! I’m so excited!!! Yippie!!! Seantastic the Rock God and company Karmahitlist!!! I think I just wet myself…”
(Hello, my name is Matildakay and I’m a Karmahitlist-aholic…)
I tagged along with NL last Wednesday night for a historic and musically philosophical
interview with Cesareo of
Karmahitlist that has been spinning around in my head all week. I sat and listened as Cesareo spoke with such excitement and conviction for Karmahitlist and the music industry. It is electric and contagious when creative people are so passionate about what they do-- their music, their art. To have found something like that in life that lights you up and gives you purpose is something I would wish for everyone.
“He talks about music the way you talk about writing...” I leaned over and said to NL as Cesareo spoke.
I left the Mint that night even more excited to see Karmahitlist…
Saturday afternoon
JR,
NL and myself stood close to the stage as
Karmahitlist made their entrance. Local Punk-Rock-God Seantastic full of charisma-- shirtless, wearing black feather wings giving credence to his heavenly Punk-Rock-God image, with rock star tattoos and punk-rock-God makeup, (that gave me
punk makeup envy again!) put on a show that will never be forgotten. Seantastic sang, he pranced, he danced, he jumped off big speakers, he threw bottled water to the crowd and poured water on those closest to the stage, he climbed on top of the Budweiser trailer posing and dancing and making his way back down to the stage in time to finish the song he was singing. He was impressive, wonderfully energetic, entertaining and exciting to watch. Seantastic reached out and connected with the crowd in a way that I haven't seen other local bands do. He gave the crowd the kind of rock show expected of Punk-Rock-Gods.
Standing in the hot afternoon sun I watched Seantastic, (who is strikingly handsome with a hard-rock-star-body), sing and marveled at his punk-rock-God-makeup look.
He must be wearing waterproof mascara and eyeliner… I thought to myself. His punk-rock-God-makeup look remained perfect through the sweat of performance and the Bakersfield heat. And I had
punk makeup envy! I would love to watch Seantastic create his punk-rock-God-makeup look, maybe someday I’ll get the chance.
Musically
Karmahitlist was right on. They were so much better, fuller, and more exciting than the last time I had seen them. Their re-grouping, re-working, and re-commitment to their music showed in songs like
Riot on the Streets, Why Adam and
Uncle Sam. Karmahitlist had re-invented and stepped to the next level. This is a band full of talented musicians and rock stars! This is a band that is going to soar to the stars and find their dreams…
