The Fashionistas
Being in Maui with two 22 year old absolutely gorgeous Fashion model type girls has its moments. Everyday they wear a different bathing suit and bathing suit cover up. I didn’t know there were so many adorable styles of bathing suits and cover-ups. It took me forever to find one bathing suit that looked ok enough on my body that I could live with and the Fashionistas look great in every bathing suit they put on. They look like Victoria’s Secret Models.

‘D’ and I weren’t even in the same league as the Fashionistas. For them… it was all about the shoes, the bags, the jewelry, the hair, and the perfect outfit.

The shoes. The Fashionistas wear the cutest 4-inch heels of every style imaginable everywhere we go-- even to the beach. I don’t know how they walk in them. And they walk really fast! I watch them walk and marvel and wish that I could wear high heels again. They must have packed a suitcase full of shoes for I haven’t seen them repeat a pair of shoes yet.

The bags. The Fashionistas have a different bag, purse or beach bag to go with every outfit and bathing suit they wear. Not only did they bring some very stylistic bags with them… but they’ve been buying bags like crazy on our shopping sprees. I don’t know how they got all of those bags, purses and beach bags to fit in their suitcases or how they will get all of the new bags they’ve bought home.

The jewelry. The Fashionistas have the perfect jewelry to match every outfit and bathing suit they wear. From earrings to bracelets and necklaces… for them an outfit isn’t complete without the jewelry.

The hair. The Fashionistas have long flowing gorgeous hair. Whether it’s pinned up after just swimming in the ocean, or long and curled at the ends for an evening out on the town, the Fashionistas have movie star hair.

The perfect outfit. The Fashionistas always wear the perfect outfit. When the Fashionistas get ready for dinner or a night out clubbing they look like they’ve just stepped off a New York Fashion Show Runway during Fashion Week. I always know when the Fashionistas are ready to go out because I can hear the clip clop clip clop of their 4-inch heels on the wooden spiral staircase in the condo as they walk downstairs from their bedroom. My girlfriend and I stop what we are doing when we hear the clip clop clip clop on the stairs so that we can witness their entrance and see what perfect fashion model like outfit they are wearing this time. I am continually amazed and stunned at how strikingly beautiful they are. The Fashionistas grand entrance down the spiral staircase is always proceeded by their rendition of: “Don’t you wish your girlfriend was hot like me…” by: The Pussycat Dolls and Busta Rhyme. I know it’s hard to believe, but I’ve never heard this song before… so I find it incredibly funny when they start singing this song and prancing around the room.

It has been very interesting to watch other people’s, especially men’s, reaction to the Fashionistas. Men gawk and women stare with envy. The Fashionistas however, strut down the street as if they are oblivious to the attention they are receiving. ‘D’ will point out good looking men that were obviously staring and reacting to the Fashionistas-- whose response is almost always the same:

“He’s 12!” The Fashionistas exclaim.

“He is not 12!” ‘D’ reiterates.

The Fashionistas may be beautiful high maintenance girls with suitcases that weigh 68 pounds, but they aren’t throwing themselves at men. They aren’t shallow or snotty. In fact they are smart, witty, and a lot of fun to be around. Their smiles and laughter are infectious. And I wish I were their size so I could raid their wardrobes.
