The Boys Are Back in Town!
It’s Condor Season and the boys are back in town! I had been anxiously awaiting Saturday night’s preseason game against Fresno all week. I hadn’t been this excited about an event since Karmahitlist played with Mento Buru at Fishlips. After a long off season its finally Condor time again! Its time to smell the ice, hear the roar of the crowd, eat skittles in the stands, dance with Colonel Clawd and watch our Condors skate artfully, skillfully making that thing called hockey look soooo dang easy. Even though last years stars and crowd favorites Connor James and Fukufuji have been called up to the next level of professional hockey I’m still excited and ready for a new season of local Bakersfield Condors hockey. Bakersfield hockey fans will forever remember Connor James and Fukufuji for the outstanding season they gave us last year. I fondly remember Connor James flying down the ice in a break-a-way scoring goals, Fukufuji’s samurai goalie antics that had the crowd chanting Fukufuji Fukufuji after every saved goal. They really lit Bakersfield hockey fans on fire. They lit this Bakersfield hockey fan on fire. They made hockey real for me. They made hockey fun for me. They even affected my writing when I memorialized them in a poem. I don’t know who this Condor season stars will be but I’m looking forward to finding out. I’m looking forward to watching the players skate, score goals, win and fight!

There are a couple new Condor blogs that will make this year’s season even more fun-- reading about the players, the fights, the games, and all the trash talk. The official Condors blog The Neutral Zone and Bobblehead on Condors , a serious hockey fan’s perspective on the games. Both blogs are part of thebuzzblogs.com a local blog community, check them out for all the hockey drama this season.

Something even more exciting this season is the mixture of local music and local hockey. Local bands participating in the compilation CD Growing up Fighting: Bakersfield Hockey Volume 1 will be playing outside and inside the Rabobank Arena at various home games. You can pre-order the CD here. This coming Saturday, October 22, 2005, is the opening Condor season home game with the Filthies performing!! It’s going to be quite a night in Bakersfield history… one of my favorite local bands the Filthies, those Condor hockey boys and magnetic Condor season schedules too! What more could a single Bakersfield girl ask for on a Saturday night except that everyone come out to Condorstown and support the Condors and the Filthies and make opening night a fabulous fun time to remember!
