The Condors and the Filthies do Bakersfield proud!
Saturday night was opening night at the Rabobank Arena for the
Condor’s hockey season, and oh what a night to remember! Making local music and hockey history, the
Filthies invaded the Rabobank sharing their special brand of rural rock punk music with anxiously awaiting Condors hockey fans outside before the game and inside the arena playing to over 8,200 pumped up fans during the first intermission.
Outside the Rabobank the Filthies put on a great show! They unveiled their new hockey song and Condors anthem
Condorstown and played fan favorites
The Donut Shop,
Embalm You,
On the Radio,
Take My Ass Home and
Dramarama’s Anything. Inside the Rabobank during the first intermission the Filthies performed their hockey song
Condorstown to over 8,200 pumped up fans after the Condors had scored 3 goals in the first period. Those hockey fans eagerly embraced their new Condors anthem yelling GO! FIGHT! SKATE!
I sat in the stands close to where the Filthies were performing with a group of friends watching the crowd’s reaction as the Filthies performed their hockey song
Condorstown. I watched the genuinely excited faces of Kenny, Gus, Kelley and Guppy as they performed for that stadium of thousands of hockey fans-- and I had never been prouder for a local band than I was for the Filthies at that moment. How amazing for an unsigned band to get to perform in front of that big of a crowd.
The Filthies hockey song
Condorstown is part of the hockey compilation CD:
Growing Up Fighting: Bakersfield Hockey Volume 1. You can pre-order the CD
here. And check out the
schedule of other local bands that will be performing their hockey songs at the Rabobank Arena at upcoming Condors games.
But the Filthies
BIG moment wasn’t the only proud moment of the night. The Condors played some
great hockey and didn’t disappoint their fans in the least-- winning the game 5-3! There were some
great goals, hard hits, fast skating, a few fights and a thunderous crowd. It was a great night of hockey and rural rock punk music for Bakersfield and I was so happy to be a part of it.
