The Hobbit
Thursday night I went to see J.R.R. Tolkein’s
The Hobbit at the
Bakersfield Community Theater. This was an adapted version of
The Hobbit, one unlike any I’d ever seen before full of comedy and pop culture references. The Bakersfield Community Theater knows what they’re doing. They put on some of the best productions with very talented children and adult actors in town. The sets are imaginative and creative and the costumes and makeup are superb! The Hobbit has a large ensemble cast and the children are a wonder to watch!!
Chris Orta last seen as Tootles in the production of J.M. Barrie’s Peter Pan at the Bakersfield Community Theater played Bilbo Baggins and gave an impressive performance. He is one talented young actor! My favorite Bilbo scenes were when he would come out and sit on the edge of the stage in front of the audience alone and write in his journal long soliloquies about his severe discomfort on his long journey.
There are still shows playing at the Bakersfield Community Theater (
show times listed here). If you are looking for a fun filled family style evening full of laughter, music and talented children go see The Hobbit.
