The war is over!
There has been a victory parade marching through my house since last Wednesday evening.
The war with my computer is over. OVER! Peace has been restored to my home.
Last Tuesday I took off work an hour early to sit at home and wait for the Cox Cable Service Technician to come and fix my Internet connectivity problems. I sat on my couch waiting for the Service Technician until 6:30pm. The appointment was scheduled for sometime between 4-6pm. At 6:30pm I picked up the phone and called Cox Cable.
“The Service Technician that was supposed to be here between 4-6pm hasn’t shown up yet.” I said perturbed to the Cox Cable employee on the phone.
“Let me see if I can locate the Technician.” The Cox Cable employee replied.
I was put on hold.
‘On hold’ is a time-space-continuum anomaly where MUSAK is piped into your ears and it seems to go on for an eternity.
“I finally located the Technician, he’s stuck at his last call. It’s going to be another half hour to forty-five minutes before he can get to your home. Will that be ok, ma’am?” The Cox Cable employee stated.
Ma’am! I hate being called ma’am!
“No that won’t be alright! I took off work early and I’ve been sitting here waiting for two hours. I have plans tonight to get a Christmas tree, I can’t sit around waiting another hour or more.” I explained irritated.
I was pissed!“I’m sorry ma’am. Would you like to reschedule the appointment?” The Cox Cable employee apologized.
“I can’t take off work early again, I have year end deadlines this week.” I explained.
“Can anyone else be at the home to meet the Technician?” The Cox Cable Technician sheepishly asked.
“I live alone sir.” I angrily stated.
“The latest appointment we have is from 4-6pm ma’am.” The Cox Cable Technician continued to explain.
“I might be able to get my Dad to wait at my house if he gets back in town in time tomorrow. Go ahead and schedule the appointment.” I said through gritted teeth.
Tuesday night’s battle ended in a stalemate. Still no Internet connectivity.
My Dad was able to meet the Cox Cable Technician the next day for me. At 4:30pm my Dad called me at work.
“They say you need a new modem. They can sell you one if you want.” My Dad explained.
“Anything Dad. Whatever it takes to get the Internet working.” I exclaimed.
My Dad met me at the door when I got home.
“Apparently you had a combination of problems.” He explained.
“The signal from the pole was too strong, and when it’s cold it gets stronger.” He continued.
Too strong? It seemed like the signal has been too weak all this time. I thought.
“Your modem was shorting out. They sold you a new one, hooked it up and everything, and they’ll guarantee it for three years.” He explained.
“It works though, right?” I asked hesitantly.
“It works. They tested it before they left.” Dad stated.
I checked the computer. I had Internet connectivity. I checked the laptop. I had wireless Internet connectivity.
Yippie!! I shouted dancing a jig around the room.
I have Internet connectivity!!
The
war for Internet connectivity between
my computer and me was finally over…
