V for Vendetta
V for Vendetta, V for Victory, V for Voice, V for Villain, V for Victim, V for Vengeance and V for Vibrant all makes for a Very entertaining film.
Not knowing anything about the premise of the film, I admit I went to see
V for Vendetta because of
Natalie Portman. Besides being extremely beautiful, Natalie Portman is a talented actress and after her Oscar nominated outstanding role in
Closer and her performance in
Garden State I wanted to see if she could carry an action thriller. I was not disappointed. Her role is more character driven instead of being a karate kicking action figure type who kicks butt like ‘Trinity’ of the Matrix series; Natalie’s character conquers the biggest villain of all, fear. In the end she finds something to believe in, herself and hope.
I was very surprised that the hero of the movie is a terrorist. Especially in this post-terrorized 9-11 society. I was surprised that I found myself rooting for the terrorist villain, and believing in his cause, believing that his acts would bring about freedom from the tyrannical government. A government ran by a chancellor who controlled the masses in a tyrannical fashion that reminded me of Hitler or that dark Bakersfield Lord
Simon Sundale of the controversial novel:
Lords: Part One by local author
NL Belardes. I found myself believing that his vengeance against the ones who had wronged him in the vein of Edmund Dantes of the
Count of Monte Cristo was right. I wonder if I would have believed in V, rooted for V if he wore an
Osama Bin Laden mask instead of a
Guy Fawkes mask with a big smile, cool hair, hat, black outfit and cape that reminded me of
d’Artagnan of the Three Musketeers. Would I have liked V so much if he hadn’t shown some human feelings toward Evey, Natalie Portman’s character or was so well spoken and cultured. Would I have liked V if Natalie Portman’s character hadn’t fallen for him as Beauty fell for the Beast? Or did I bond with the terrorist villain because that’s the way Hollywood designed it?
The philosophies of the movie aside, I did enjoy the special effects, the costumes, the performances and the dialogue of this film very much.
you make me wanna see the movie! hmmm...
I think it is interesting that you found yourself cheering for the villian...but understandable.
Do you think this was the goal of the film or is it just fun loving story telling?

Depends on your view of the movie and political views on ideas revealing the face of the common man and public good whether you look at V as a hero or villain. I saw him as a hero risen from the mad ashes of an evil empire's torturous experiments... created by the very society that had nearly killed him and filled him with vile toxins... How much does the goverment/society/corrupt newspapers/corrupt television try to force feed us that only makes us into what others perceive as heroes/villains?
Oh I bet this would be a good watch.
Walking out of the theatre last night, some girl was already on her cell phone. Her review of the movie - "yea, it was good but I didn't really understand it."
Blowing up buildings can change the world..... Well the line between terrorist and freedom fighter is thin sometimes.
Youd could take this movie on many levels, one level is that it was superb entertainment. Did anyone else love the dominoes and the swirls and slomo around 'V's daggers in the final fight scene? And entertainment is why I go to the cinemas, that and simple escapism :)
Gooood movie!
