The smell of the ice…
The last Condors home game of the season was last night and I was there along with 8,100 other Bakersfield hockey fans. As a special treat for the last home game,
NL got me into the media zone with him. I got to watch the last home game of the season in my favorite way… close enough to smell the ice.
The only thing between me, the ice, and the hockey players was a little bit of plexi-glass. I was in
hockey Heaven! I love sitting that close to the game! I love being able to see the sweat dripping off the players faces, the effortless way they glide and skate, the fresh skate marks on clean ice, the puck flying through the air, anticipating the goals just before they slide into the goalie net, and the hard hits against the boards. I found myself jumping in my seat as hockey players collided into the boards right in front of me and I stared at their faces plastered against the plexi-glass a couple inches from my face. Down on the ice level the roar of the crowd is astoundingly loud. Every time the Condors scored a goal 8,100 people jumped to their feet screaming in glee…
God I love hockey! I thought as I looked around at the roaring crowd. I can only imagine that the roar of the crowd pumps up the hockey players into an all time hockey playing frenzy.
God I love the smell of the ice…
The Condors finished the season last night by winning 5 to 3 against the Alaska Aces and playing a great game. Next up the playoffs and then hockey will be gone until October. I don’t know why hockey can’t be year round. 6 months without hockey is a long time to go without the smell of the ice…
I expect the hockey withdrawals will set in soon.
i like hockey... missed that last game though cuz i was illin'...
i hear ya on the withdrawals... like most sports fans, we get those at the end of every season for fave sports.
