Captain Jack is King of the Box Office…
For Keith who left this comment of my Counting down to the Return of Captain Jack blog…

“What? No review? I know you had to be at the premiere if Chingpea says she was going to pee in her pants.”

Captain Jack is King of the Box Office...

Did I say that Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest was the biggest movie of the summer? I believe I did say that. I was mistaken. Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest is the biggest movie EVER to date! Bringing in $132 million opening weekend and breaking all kinds of box office records, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest even beat Star Wars and Spider Man! (I have a few Star Wars friends who were not very happy about that). It’s a Smalltown Girls/Johnny Depp victory!

Yes Keith, Chingpea and I were at the midnight premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest. No Johnny Depp obsessed Smalltown Girl would miss it!

We took our place in line with the crowds outside the theatre, ice creams in hand expecting to wait in line for a while. I had only just begun to enjoy my ice cream cone experience when suddenly the line began moving. It was only 10:30pm and they were already letting the crowds in.

“No outside food in the theatre.” A theatre worker informed us.

Both ice cream lovers, we looked at our barely eaten ice creams and at the crowds filing into the theatre and tossed out our ice creams. We weren’t going to miss Captain Jack!

What do theatre workers do with hundreds of people in 14 theatres for an hour and a half before the movie starts? Raffle off giant cardboard stand up posters of the movie characters. Sadly, neither Chingpea nor I won Captain Jack. And explain the rules of behavior. Rules like: if you go to the bathroom when the previews start your seat will be given to someone else.

The movie however, was worth the wait. Captain Jack was wonderfully zany, sexy and every bit the pirate we love with his glam rocker makeup, tipsy gait and somewhat slurred profound or sometimes kooky statements.

My new favorite saying is “Oh Bugger.”

While the first Pirate movie was about trusting people and waiting for the opportune moment, this Pirate movie was about not knowing who to trust and being betrayed by those you least expect to betray you. There are a few surprises, a kiss I’d kill for, Will’s father Bootstrap Bill and a cliffhanger ending. I have to say this would be my only criticism of the movie. I am not a big fan of the cliffhanger ending. It makes me feel like I’ve only watched half a movie and how dare they make me wait another year for the second half of the movie! Davy Jones is a great villain and the CGI graphics are amazing.

I can’t wait to watch this movie a few hundred more times…

Hey, I'm proud of myself. I only slept through half of a movie that started after midnight. A new personal record!

Thanks for the mention, Ms. Matildakay! I knew you had to be there! I just saw the movie on Sunday and crap that was hard to get tickets to. I agree with you on the whole cliffhanger thing.

I bet you and your girl, Chingpea will probably see it 50x at different theaters to get the full effect and memorize every line on your beloved's face. LOL.
