A night of conversation and art…
Last Saturday night at the
Bakersfield Art Rave an old downtown troublesome spot was filled with art and conversation and people who appreciated culture.
Noveltown had put together an industrial factory-themed film/poetry collage projection art piece that included local writers:
NL Belardes,
Black Dog,
Julie Jordan Scott, the
Art Czar, a Buckaroo,
Greg Goodsell, and
myself. I was looking forward to watching the film projects and to seeing other writers and bloggers.
I finally got to meet the beautiful
Keely and her husband. We were finally in the same place at the same time.
Greg Goodsell was there in full industrial gear. I always enjoy his artistic performance and presentation.

Chingpea and I hung out together and talked about auto mechanics, family, art, Fanta girls and pirates.
Smalltown Girls Chingpea and Matildakay...
I got to meet Dave, a Buckaroo, whose poetry was included in Noveltown’s film/poetry project. He plays some of my favorite music over at the Crystal Palace.
I had a lovely conversation with Julie Jordan Scott and her two daughters. I always find her writing inspiring and uplifting...
Socialist Sal was there supporting the arts and Noveltown. We talked about art, music and he asked me about the story behind my poem the
Button Factory after watching Noveltown's film/poetry projection art piece.
Gary and Cortnie Enns of the
Dalloways rode their bikes downtown to the Downtown Sculpture and Assemblage Show. I love Gary and Cortnie! They are so fun and hip. And they know all there is to know about where to get good French fries late at night, and their music is great too.
I sat with Cortnie watching Noveltown’s film/poetry projection art piece and
Hectic Films serial killer short film Skip. I think she had her eyes covered through most of Skip. Having seen it a few times already, I was becoming desensitized to the films disturbing content.

I was incredibly impressed with Noveltown’s industrial factory-themed flim/poetry project. It was so well edited and put together. So many people who watched the film complimented it and asked about the creative process involved in its creation.
Landen Belardes is to be commended for lending his growing talents to Noveltown. I was so proud of him I felt like his honorary mom! He represented all of the poems well in the film, and all of the writers involved have told me how they loved the presentation. He also did a very good job of editing the images in the film together. I will admit that Noveltown’s film/poetry projection art piece was my favorite piece in the whole show and not just because I was part of it. It was so original and involved poetry and film in such a unique way.

I had a few people tell me that they found out about the show by reading my blog… and I realized that in the last few days, I had met more readers and been recognized more than at any other time since I started writing my blog.
Hectic Films was filming shots and doing interviews for an upcoming episode of
Zowietown. NL decided to interview me since I was a blogger on the scene and a poet in Noveltown’s project. I don’t know what it is about microphones and video cameras but stick them in my face and my brain decides to take a vacation and my face turns beat red. Gosh I hope I don’t look like a dork on Zowietown. (Recording
Smalltown Girls was different. That was three girls sitting at my dining room table talking about our favorite subjects with nobody watching).
Did I mention that I bought art? I did. I bought two pieces. A book with shotgun shells on the cover called: “The Classics done Shotgun Style” which really appealed to the writer/reader side of me. I love books. I also bought a ceramic piece called: “Fairy Goth Mother.” I bought the Fairy Goth Mother for my novel
Killing Cinderella. I thought maybe if my character had a Fairy Goth Mother she would be able to figure her life out. Besides, I think I could use a Fairy Goth Mother myself…

I bought this piece!
I support local artists and pick up pieces for my house when I can...
All in all it was a wonderful night of conversation and art. Noveltown had a great night and I got to meet and talk to a lot of great writers and artists…
Here are a few more pictures of some of the art…

Thanks Matildakay!
It was a great event and good times with all the artists. Landon should be proud of his piece 'cus it KICKED ASS! :D

Thank you so much for your kind comments... and I also wanted to comment on that one really cool sculpture.. I wish I could remember the title? It was like a bubble bath... something like that.. I loved it.. when I go back on Saturday I will be more conscious....LOL.
that was a great night of art appreciation and conversation...
Interesting art. Guess I'll try to catch it this Saturday. Will you be there? It would be nice to meet you.
Listened to you on Smalltown Girls.
Will you come back when school starts? Or are the episodes available it? Miss your voice - and the others too.
Peace,
Chris
Unfortunatly I won't be at the Downtown Art Rave this coming Saturday. I will be at the Yosemite Writer's Conference.
It would be nice to meet you too... Smalltown Girls will be back soon hopefully, and in the meantime you can listen to our episodes here.
