Matildakay Redux: Volume 1, Issue 4 – Noveltown and Cinema of the Lords at BIFF 2.0
Have you been to the movies lately? Have you gotten your animation, chick flick, comedy, thriller and horror movie fix? Well
Noveltown, Spotlight Theatre and
Seat of Your Pants Productions has just what you’re looking for! The Bakersfield Independent Film Festival - BIFF 2.0 is back!
Yesterday I sat in a theatre full of children with ‘happy feet’. “Shhh… sit down!” Parents whispered trying to control their children, all sugared up on soda pop and candy, who wanted to get up and tap dance with the penguins on screen. Even I was tapping my feet. The music in
Happy Feet is great! Penguins danced and sang while teaching that it’s ok to be different. It’s ok to be yourself!
I wonder if there will be any animation films at BIFF 2.0 on November 24th and 25th? I loved the stop motion film Fresh Fish they showed at BIFF last year.
Buried within all the dancing and singing and great animation was a message to take care of our environment. I wonder if the children watching understood that message or if it was meant for the adults?
Would there be films or documentaries with socially conscious messages at BIFF 2.0? I wondered.
A couple weeks ago I
hid my eyes behind a coat while watching
Saw III in a packed theatre. The torture, the gore, the horror! I couldn’t handle it. I ran away to the bathroom twice.
I bet Hectic Films will have some of their brand of horror and gore at BIFF 2.0. I thought.
I may have to hide out in the lobby of the Spotlight Theatre and have a latte if I get too scared. Their serial killer thriller Skip was quite disturbing.
I wonder if Hectic Films will be showing Skip or their Fly on the Wall series at BIFF 2.0?Have you seen
Coca Cola’s short film contest winner that shows right before the previews in the movie theatre? It shows a documentary filmmaker trying to film monkeys in the wild but the monkeys just sit there and don’t do anything until they see his bottle of coke. They go crazy for the coca cola! It’s funny!
If short film contests are good for Coca Cola they’re good for
Noveltown and Bakersfield too!
Noveltown’s short film contest
Cinema of the Lords entries will all be featured at this year’s BIFF 2.0! There will be some creepy Lords of Bakersfield scenes depicted. Various versions of Joey Minstrel will grace the screen. I hear even Simon Sundale will make an appearance. All entries are based on the novel
Lords: Part One by local author and
blogger N.L. Belardes. (

I can’t wait to see the Cinema of the Lords entries and find out who the winner of the Noveltown’s short film contest is!
