Write Mind
“I just can’t find the time
to write my mind
the way I want it to read.” ~WilcoA simple chorus from Wilco’s song
Box Full of Letters and yet when I really heard those words, really listened, I understood just what Jeff Tweedy was singing about.
Life is a story. But are you writing your story? Or are you simply playing a part that has been written for you?
Sometimes I wonder if I’m writing my story. There are things I do in pursuit of my dreams where I feel like I’m writing my own story. There are steps I’ve taken in my life, changes I’ve made since my divorce that I feel like I’ve written. And yet there is so much of my life that I have no control over that surely I must be playing a part someone else has written for me. Those are the moments when I am most lost. When I have a hard time visualizing my dreams. When I do well to tread water, to survive the day rather than seizing it.
If I could find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read…So if I made the time to write my mind the way I want it to read… I would write a story where I played the leading lady and not the supporting actress. I would write a story where my character found her true self. I would write a story full of courage and spunk. I would write a story where my dreams were realized.
I believe it was John Lennon who said: “Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”
I don’t want that to be my story anymore. I’m going to find the time to write my mind the way I want it to read.
Be sure to choose some really kick-ass theme music for yourself!!
Jenraven, Oh yeah... it wouldn't be a good story without a kick-ass soundtrack! :)
Hey, in your story, can I be one of your sidekicks?
Darren Hayes for music, Johnny Depp for leading man...Your story would be PERFECT!!!
i love this entry...
"We are such stuff
As dreams are made on and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep..."
-Shakespeare's The Tempest
write your story, wifey!
That is one of my favortie albums. Great lyrics.
I hate it when I make a typo and don't catch it.
Shit, I didn't even see that typo. I know I have to be dyslexic. I read it three times.
Ughh..
Oh yeah, your blog entry.
You know, I have to go back to Ray Bradbury coming to Bakersfield and saying that your dreams are important, and people who don't support you, you should knock out of the way!
He should have been a hockey player.
Go for it, Matildakay!
Mmmmm. Beautifully written.... (wondering to myself if you have read Natalie Goldberg's 'Wild Mind'?)
Chingpea, Thanks so much! Love the Shakespeare quote!
