Dirty Spanglish in my office and at Studio 99
Thursday afternoon I was standing in the copy room at my office making copies and looking out the windows at the houses on the street below. It was raining and the wind was blowing. It was the perfect cuddle up on the couch and watch a movie with someone special kind of weather. In that moment I wanted to be anywhere but cooped up in the office doing paperwork, even outside in the rain. I made more copies, watched the trees blowing in the wind and daydreamed.
Where is that music coming from? I wondered. I didn’t see any parked cars thumping on the street. Then suddenly… I recognized the song. It was Zebras! I quickly called
NL.
“Guess what.”
“What?” He asked.
“I can hear
Dirty Spanglish in my office!”
My office is one block from Dirty Spanglish’s practice garage and the copy room directly faces the back of their garage.
“Really? That’s cool!”
“Yeah I recognized their song Zebras.” I said.
“You can hear them clearly?”
“Yeah. They sound good.”
“They’re practicing for their big show tonight.” NL explained.
“Cool!”
I went back to my desk with Dirty Spanglish tunes playing in my head…

Later that night at
Studio 99 when Dirty Spanglish took the stage with their own brand of rural pop punk music, I was blown away by how much they had improved from their last show just a month ago. They played some new tunes including “Electric Accompanied Boom”, some old favorites like “Zebras” and “She’s a Jones Soda”, and Johnny Cash and Filthies covers. I’m always amazed at how well Dirty Spanglish’s punk version of Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues is received by every audience they’ve played to. It’s one of my favorites in their set too. It just goes to show how universal Johnny Cash is. This was by far Dirty Spanglish’s best show to date and at 15 they’re only going to get better and better!
Ten 13 Concept a band from Florida currently touring the West Coast was up next and filled Studio 99 with their energy, fun pop ska music and synchronized jumping. I’ve never seen a man playing a trombone jump before but wow! Their music was fun, they had cool looks and moves, the crowd was into them and I found myself digging their music. I left that night with their cd like others in the crowd who gobbled up their merchandise.

Photos of Ten 13 Concept are from their myspace page.
All in all it was a fabulous night of fun pop punk and pop ska music and I was so glad that I went out in the rain.
I love Dirty Spanglish and their song "She's a Jones Soda" is my favorite! I can't wait to actually MAKE IT to their next show so I can listen to their other stuff that isn't on myspace music.
Norma, Dirty Spanglish rocks! I'm really digging their new song "Electric Accompanied Boom" these days...
Yup definately Dirty Spanglish's best show! Just wish more people had been there to see how good they are. Ten 13 Concept was awesome. I loved their music aand their synchronized jumping. All in all, great show at Studio 99 from both bands.
