Men and Music
FattKatt and the VonZippers are playing at the Crystal Palace tonight, wanna go?” I wrote to NL in an email yesterday afternoon.

“Sounds good.” NL wrote.

I love FattKatt and the VonZippers and I didn’t want to stay home last night.

After work, I watched an episode of Sex and the City to unwind before getting ready to go out. I’ve been in a Sex and the City mood lately. It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve watched the series, those women and their relationships with men have crazy parallels with my life that I can’t seem to escape. I just wish I had their wardrobes!

“What time does FattKatt go on?” NL asked as we pulled into the Crystal Palace.

“Seven thirty.”

“Perfect timing.”

“How did you hear about their show?” NL asked.

“The Bakotopia Newsletter email today.”

We ordered food as FattKatt opened their set with Buck Owens’ “I’ve got a Tiger by the Tail”.

I swear you have to be the Jolly Green Giant to eat at the Crystal Palace. They bring you the whole cow and a field of potatoes and vegetables on your plate. The food is good, but I have never finished a meal there.

FattKatt and the VonZippers were rockin’ through their set of originals and covers while people danced, and then they played one of my favorite songs off their upcoming album, “Why oh Why”.

“Oh, I love this song!”

“Yeah it’s a good one.”

“There are three albums coming out this year that I am so excited about!” I told NL.

“The Filthies.” He guessed.

“Yep.”

“FattKatt and the VonZippers.”

“Yep.”

“And the Dalloways.”

“Yep.”

“Yeah those are all going to be really good.” He said.

“I know I can’t wait!”

New music from three of my favorite local bands, something to look forward to this year...

At the end of FattKat’s set NL went outside with the band to film a promo video for Bakotopia. It was cold last night, so I stayed at the table and people watched. There were a lot of women from the Red Hat Society there last night and they knew how to have fun.

“Excuse me.” A little old grey haired woman tapped me on the shoulder.

“Yes?” I asked.

“I was wondering if you were married?”

“I’m not married.” I said. Although it was my wedding anniversary that night.

“Well, would you like to meet a nice young man?” She pointed at a guy sitting at the bar behind me who looked like he wanted to crawl under the bar from embarrassment.

I looked at the guy who was sheepishly smiling. I smiled back to ease his embarrassment. The little old grey haired woman hurried back to tell him: “She’s not married!”

I left with NL and we headed to the Filthies studio to meet Kenny, Kelley and Guppy.

The Filthies were all dressed up in black and looking hot! Within minutes they had me laughing like I hadn’t laughed in a long time. I laughed the whole time NL took photos of them. And then it was time for band practice! The Filthies played several songs for NL and I. I was in rural rock punk heaven!

I looked around at Kelley playing the bass, Guppy on the drums and NL taking photos while I sat there listening to Kenny sing and I thought I was the luckiest woman in the world. Here I was with my best friend and hanging out with some of my favorite men and I had heard music from two of my favorite local bands. Men and music… it doesn't get much better than that.

I'm with Jen, what about the poor embarassed guy. Did you exchange meaningful glances? Did you stop waxing rhapsodically about music long enough to... connect... exchange email addresses? Hmmmm?

I love the headline, btw. Men and Music. Topics I could discuss (and experience) for hours on and.... LOL.

Jenraven, Yes, cute. And yes it was a fantastic evening! Thanks so much!

Julie Jordan Scott, We did exchange smiles, but that was the extent of the exchange. I just found it so funny that a little old lady was going around asking women if they were married trying to set this guy up! I wasn't the only one she approached, and the poor guy was soooo embarassed! I think he wanted to die. But she was on a mission! :)

I love men and music too! I could discuss them for hours... I may have to do a follow up blog just to elaborate a little more.

Annie, FattKatt on the 18th at Crystal Palace and I think the Filthies cd release bash is next weekend too! Great fun!

Jennifer, As I said before, cute, but dying of embarassment. :) I agree with you... hot men and great music! Yum!

Norma, Actually it was Thursday night. :) But yes, good friends, hot men, great music... I can't think of anything better! I need to place another order of Hot men and great music! :)
